Representations from models or imagined to evoke a feeling, Laura Marmash’s figures are captured in a life changing moment. Although we are not the focus of her characters gazes, their incredibly detailed, realistic physiognomies and the natural elements attached to their bodies expose their emotions. Drawing inspiration from her materials, which include clay, porcelain and stoneware, the artist creates amongst others, effigies of a domineering, troubled queen, the determined, aloft Jayson or a proud woman that protects her heart. Ms.Marmash earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Kent State University in Ohio. Her sculptures have been exhibited mostly in galleries and art shows in Chicago, including the Lillstreet Art Center Student Member Show, where Jayson, resting on his wood pedestal made an apparition.
